Yes; I'm a big VMWare user myself and what I use it for mostly is trying
out OpenBSD, NetBSD installs; for fucking around with a Linux box
without altering the real box, so I can see what happens, and the like.
Being able to run proprietary apps is just a fringe benefit to the real
benefits for me.
